HOSHIARPUR: The Punjab Police claim to have busted a terror module by arresting three people, including the mother and daughter of US-based Khalistan Zindabad Force terrorist Balwinder Singh Possi. India has been seeking Possi's extradition in two cases of bomb blasts in Jalandhar in 2006.

On Thursday the police claimed to have recovered a cache of arms and ammunitions from the house of Possi's mother Salinder Kaur and sister Kulwinder Kaur, residents of Possi village in Hoshiarpur district. The third arrested person, Ranjit Singh Rana, is from Nurpur Jattan village in the same district.

Jalandhar zone IG Gurpreet Deo said all the three arrested people had been charged under various sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Deo said one 7.65mm automatic pistol, one 0.9mm US-made pistol, one .30 bore Mauser, one .32 bore revolver, three magazines and 89 cartridges were recovered from the house of Possi's mother and sister. Two countrymade pistols were also recovered from the accused.

In April 2006 a bomb blast in a Punjab transport department bus in Jalandhar had killed three people. A month later, another bomb had gone off in a bus, but no casualities were reported.

While Possi, the accused, had fled the country, Satnam Singh Satta, the prime accused, was acquitted of all charges by a Jalandhar court in 2009. Amrik Singh, the third accused, has also been absconding ever since.

In January, India had formally asked the US justice department for the extradition of Possi.

A British tourist in India has been hospitalised after jumping out of a window to escape being raped, it emerged today.
The 25-year-old was apparently staying in a hotel in the centre of Agra, the city where the Taj Mahal is located, when a man broke in to her room and attempted to molest her.
The woman then jumped from the first-floor window and was taken to a local hospital with head injuries and fractures in both legs.

The alleged rapist, who has been arrested, is believed to be the owner of the hotel where she was staying.
A spokesman for Foreign Office said that officials were 'urgently investigating' the reports.
The news comes just days after a Swiss tourist was raped by a gang of Indian men while her husband was tied up and forced to watch.
That attack took place during a cycling holiday in the relatively remote state of Madhya Pradesh, but the latest incident is even more worrying given that it was in a popular tourist town visited by millions of westerners every year as part of the 'Golden Triangle' of attractions in northern India.
The issue of sexual assault in India came to prominence in December, when a 23-year-old student was gang-raped on a bus and left with such severe injuries that she later died.
That attack led to a national protest movement with women and men taking to the streets to demand a harsh punishment for the victim's attackers and greater protection against future incidents.

The Indian government has introduced legislation which would raise the minimum sentence for rape to 20 years and impose the death penalty in cases which led to the death of the victim.
The Foreign Office today updated its travel advice for women planning to visit India, apparently before the reports of the latest attempted rape.
'Women should use caution when travelling in India,' the advice says.
'Reported cases of sexual assault against women and young girls are increasing; recent sexual attacks against female visitors in tourist areas and cities show that foreign women are also at risk.
'British women have been the victims of sexual assault in Goa, Delhi, Bangalore and Rajasthan and women travellers often receive unwanted attention in the form of verbal and physical harassment by individuals or groups of men.'
Women travelling through the country are advised to respect local dress codes and customs and avoid visiting isolated areas, including beaches, alone, at any time of day.
The FCO also warns women against travelling alone on public transport, in taxis or auto-rickshaws, especially at night.

On Friday night, a 33-year-old Swiss woman on a three-month cycling tour of India with her husband was attacked when the couple pitched their tent in a remote area of forest in Madhya Pradesh.
She told police she was raped by around seven or eight men, who tied her husband to a tree and beat him.
Six tribesmen have now been arrested and charged with the assault.
In December, a physiotherapy student came under attack when she boarded a bus on the way home from seeing a film with a male friend.
The bus driver and five other passengers locked the doors to the vehicle and started beating them both before taking turns raping the woman.
They were thrown out of the bus after the attack and found severely injured at the side of the road.
The woman, who had suffered severe intestinal damage during the assault, was flown to Singapore for hospital treatment but later died, prompting an outcry of sympathy and rage from within India.
